Search committee for next vice chancellor holds 1st meeting

The search committee for a new vice chancellor and provost of Syracuse University held its first meeting on Monday.

The committee was created by Chancellor Kent Syverud on April 16 with the goal of finding a candidate “who will best serve as the University’s chief academic officer and represent all aspects of the academic mission,” according to an SU News release.

Eric Spina stepped down from his role as vice chancellor and provost at the end of 2014 after taking the position in 2006. Spina is now a Trustee Professor at SU, and Liz Liddy, former dean of the School of Information Studies, is currently interim vice chancellor and provost.

The committee is comprised of faculty and staff members, students and the Board of Trustees. Aysha Seedat, a junior policy studies major and president-elect of the Student Association, is the committee’s undergraduate student representative. Syverud is represented on the committee by his liaison, Mike Haynie, the vice chancellor of veteran and military affairs at SU.
